What are RSS feeds?
These are feeds that you sign up to, so you can receive alerts when certain websites have added new content. These feeds bring the latest information from websites that are frequently updated, such as blog entries, news headlines, entertainment stories and audio and video sites, to your computer. RSS stands for ‘really simple syndication’, meaning that publishers can broadcast material simultaneously, via a number of media channels. So instead of logging onto your favourite news page, you can sign up to their RSS feed and have the latest headlines delivered to your computer as they are broadcast.RSS feeds benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from frequently-visited websites or to concentrate feeds from many sites into one place. The RSS reader checks the user’s subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads and updates, and provides an interface to read the feeds.
How do I subscribe to RSS feeds?
Joining is as easy as one click of your mouse. Simply open the web page you want to subscribe to and click on the RSS symbol in the web browser, which is universally recognised as an orange and white square icon.
